What this site collects

This page explains what base-layer.ai does with data when you visit. It covers only this website. The Base Layer software runs on your own machine and sends nothing to this site.

Hosting

Vercel hosts the site. To serve the site, Vercel receives every request, including your IP address and your browser's user agent.

Analytics

Every page loads Google Analytics with storage turned off. It sets no cookies. Google still receives a basic request for each page you view. The request includes the page address, your browser's user agent and your IP address. The site shows no ads.

Visit counts

The site counts page views without cookies. For each day it keeps a count of page views, a count per page, and a count per referring site: the name of the site you came from, such as google.com, or none. It stores nothing that identifies you or your browser: no cookie, no IP address, no user agent and no visitor id. Requests from software that identifies itself as automated are not counted as views. Daily counts are kept for 400 days.

AI crawler log

When a known AI crawler such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot makes a request, the site records the crawler's name, the requested page, the time, the IP address and the user agent. The site identifies the crawler by its user agent. The log keeps the most recent 5,000 entries. The site also keeps a daily count of requests per crawler, including search engine crawlers such as Googlebot and Bingbot, for 400 days; these counts hold only the crawler's name. The site does not write requests from ordinary browsers to this log.

Agent feedback endpoint

The /api/agent-feedback endpoint lets AI agents report how they used a published example specification. The site stores each submission with the text the agent sent, the sender's IP address and user agent, and the time. It keeps the most recent 1,000 submissions. The site also uses the IP address for rate limiting, with a counter that expires after one hour.

Private specification pages

Some specification pages are shared privately by link with the person they describe. When you open one, the site records each visit with the time, a session id, your IP address and user agent, how long the page stayed open and which tabs you opened. It also records each sign-in with the time, IP address and user agent. The site keeps the most recent 20 visits and 20 sign-ins per page.

These pages can show a feedback button. When you submit feedback, the site stores the rating, the comment, the time and your IP address. It keeps the most recent 100 submissions per page. When email notification is configured, the site also sends the same details, including the IP address, to Base Layer by email through the Resend email service. The site also uses the IP address for rate limiting, with a counter that expires after 24 hours. The public example pages do not show this button.

Where stored data lives

The site stores the crawler log, agent feedback, page feedback and visit and sign-in records in an Upstash Redis database.

Earlier email sign-ups

Until 20 October 2026, the site had a form for email updates. The form sent addresses entered there to a Google Apps Script that collected sign-ups. The form has been removed. To have your address deleted, write to the address below.

Third-party image

The footer shows a badge image loaded from aiagentsdirectory.com. That site receives your IP address and user agent when the image loads.
